Place:Woodfall

Woodfall is large region occupying much of the northeast quadrant of Hyrule, defined by the endless forests and woodlands which fill its landscape. In some areas, the woods are so thick that they almost completely blot our the sun.

Woodfall is bordered on the south by Lake Hylia, the east by the Eastern Sea, and to the west by Snowhead and Castle Town. Its northern reaches have yet to be documented. Notable locations within it include the Deku Kingdom to the north, and the Lost Woods to the south.

Overall, this region is mostly home to Deku Scrubs, Moblins, and Kikwi, but is also occupied by the occasional Hylians, Gorons, Lizalfos, Stalfos. It is the only known homeland of the rare Skull Kid race.

Deku Kingdom

The inner lands of Woodfall have been claimed by the Deku Scrubs, with these tribes being particularly territorial and protective of their lands. In the heart of their lands lies Deku Palace, an enormous ancient oak which stands hundreds of feet tall, and at least one hundred feet wide at it’s base. This palace is considered the throne of the kingdom and the center of their existence, here the Deku King and his family reside and rule the central Deku Tribe.

Most of the Deku Kingdom lies under several feet of water; a remnant of the great freeze of Hyrule, this water is here to stay, making it something of a marshland. Unlike Moruge Swamp, Woodfall would be considered a much more pleasant place, as it is composed of fresh, clear water that is consistently being refreshed by rivers flowing from the west. Due to these flooded areas, travelers that wish to visit the Deku Kingdom generally require boats or some other means of traversing water.

Existing as close neighbors to the Deku race, many talking monkeys have made their home atop several of the trees. The Deku Scrubs and the monkeys are often quarreling, disputing over food and other things of little importance.

While walking near the Deku Kingdom, one is likely to cross paths with a member of the Deku Tribe at one time or another, and while the Deku normally ignore passersby, on occasion they will confront travelers. It has been told that on occasion, this Deku Tribe will capture an unlucky traveler, bringing them before a Deku Tribunal to be judged of whether or not the prisoner seems hostile.

Lost Woods

The southern edge of Woodfall has become notoriously known as the Lost Woods. This patch of forest and its dark aura have intimidated travelers for hundreds of years, causing many of them to return whence they came. Legend says that countless years ago a curse was laid upon this forest by the powers of evil and has remained until this day. Its trees are like a vast labyrinth that are constantly changing, causing many to lose their way and even perish within its boundaries. Many have entered, braved the forest’s maze, most have never been heard from again. Occasionally, one may find skeletons of Hylians and other races deceased, assumed to have died attempting to leave the woods. As the legend goes, children who lose their way in these woods become the undead tricksters known as Skull Kids who roam these wilds.

Although the majority of travelers entering the Lost Woods have perished, many others have survived and learned its secrets. Those familiar with the wood’s workings can safely maneuver it, and are of course able to lead others through the maze. Notoriously, the Lost Woods is home to thieves who rob passerby. Though these thieves rarely kill, they will always leave an unsuspecting traveler with nothing, which in and of itself may be fatal. Just as often, they'll stumble across a traveler who's already passed on from starvation, taking the opportunity to loot the corpse. According to rumors, numerous fortresses of thieves hide in the trees, waiting for opportunity.
