Unusual Companion
Cost 60 rupees

An unusual character is any character which does is not a member of a recognized race of Hyrule, but is instead of a lower species. To make one of these characters, a player must be either a Regular or Veteran, and must forfeit 60 rupees to make the unusual character. Finally, any species that doesn't already have a page on the Library must be approved beforehand by a staff member. Otherwise, creating an unusual character is essentially the same as creating a normal one, and uses the normal character creation process.

Most often, an unusual character is of an animal or animal-like species, ranging from a Loftwing to a housecat. Hostile or monster-like animals, such as Keese and Wolfos, are also allowed. A normal member such a species typically has lower intelligence than a Hylian, but an unusual character belonging to the species is assumed to be exceptionally intelligent for its kind, unless otherwise specified. Despite this, the unusual character cannot speak the Hyrulean language unless it otherwise could, or if it gains a Jabber Nut to do so.

Although an unusual character can acquire all normal treasures, some of them arguably cannot be used. A Keese couldn't expect to use Warlock Punch, for instance, as it has no limbs appropriate for punching. Similarly, it might have trouble using a Hookshot as its limbs are too short to manipulate the item properly. However, an intelligent Keese would have everything necessary to cast a spell such as Life, or wear an item like an All-Night Mask. Players should use common sense in deciding which treasures are applicable towards any given unusual character. In ambiguous cases, it would be wise to consult a staff member.

An unusual character should be treated as such in the world of Hyrule. Although Hyrule is a bizarre place with many unexpected occurrences, any unusual character is expected to be truly bizarre--and likely the only of its kind, born from an uncanny mutation or a backfired spell. After all, it's practically unheard of that a Keese could cast a spell as potent as Life, or a horse eloquently speaking the words of men even with a Jabber Nut.

Finally, an Unusual Characters does have one undeniable limitation that separates it from a normal character. If a player completes a dungeon or quest using multiple characters, any Unusual Character does not contribute the normal 10-rupee bonus received for using multiple characters. (In these instances, the Unusual Character is treated as being a Pet, Mount, or Combat Companion to another character.)

Character Creation Brief

An unusual characters always begins with a PWC score of 1/1/1.

Depending on its species, an unusual character may begin with one or more innate racial perks. Plant creatures for instance would always gain Plant Composition, while a creature like a horse would likely have Centaur Speed, and a Chilfos certainly has Frigid Composition. If an unusual character has two or more wings, but no functional arms, then Winged Flight must be gained as an innate racial perk. As is normally the case, innate racial perks are gained for free.

In addition to any innate racial perks, an unusual character can gain any universal racial perks, and will likely benefit most from Bonus Treasure and Rupee Riches. Certain species could arguably gain perks that are normally exclusive to other races--such as a Keese gaining Nightvision, or a Wolfos gaining Scent--subject to staff approval.
