A Spark Staff appears as a wooden cane, usually about as long as its wielder's forearm, which magically but gradually changes between the colors of yellow and black.

Aside from being visually impressive, the cane has a specific magic function. Whenever it is swung with intent, from its tip will emerge a magical entity known as a "Spark," though it is occasionally referred to as a "Winder." The Spark summoned by this spell is roughly spherical, with a diameter equal to the cane's length. A Spark usually appears to be rapidly flashing black and yellow and crackling with electricity, though it can also flash between orange and blue, or other color variations.

Once summoned, the Spark will drop until it finds solid ground. From there, it will travel forward until it meets what it finds to be a solid wall or inanimate obstacle, at which point it will begin to travel right around the obstacle, hugging close to the obstacle but not touching it. The Spark will continue to circle the given obstacle as long as it can. If summoned inside a closed room, it will circle the room's exterior instead, ignoring doorways.

Any creature which comes into contact with a Spark will be jolted with powerful electricity, and be unable to so much as hinder the entity. Even if it strikes someone, the Spark will continue to travel its route, passing clean through animate objects and electrifying them, as if unhindered by solid matter. The only known ways to destroy a Spark are, curiously enough, to strike it with a Boomerang or sprinkling it with Fairy Glitter, causing it to abruptly vanish into thin air.

Normally, a Spark Staff can spawn up to two Sparks simultaneously. Attempting to create a new one will abruptly cause the oldest one to vanish. If the staff's wielder has an additional level of Summon Power, however, up to four Sparks can be summoned simultaneously. If the wielder has two additional levels of Summon Power, then up to six Sparks can co-exist from the same staff. Even if the user has multiple Spark Staves, he is subject to the normal limits of his Summon Power levels.

Trivia

The Spark Staff treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy. It is based on the Spark enemies which canonically appear in the Zelda series. More about the canon version of Sparks can be found on ZeldaWiki.
