Summon Pesto is a utility spell used to summon an abnormally large Pesto, which is a flying insect-like creature. It can be cast after about one second of concentration, after which point a Pesto will appear within arm's reach of the caste, who will fulfill all of the caster's commands to the best of its ability.

Although a typical Pesto is tiny--as small as a Hylian's thumb, or a Picori--the one summoned by this spell has a size dependent on its summoner. Its spherical head, adorned with fly-like compound eyes, is slightly larger than the head of the caster. This head makes up most of the Pesto's body. The back of its head features buzzing bug-like wings which enable it to hover effortlessly and fly at decent speeds. Below the head dangles a pair of arms, featuring digits akin to fingers and thumbs that enable it to pick up and carry objects in flight. Although the Pesto cannot speak or communicate in any articulate fashion, it understands its summoner's spoken commands, and has intelligence comparable to a monkey.

As a Pesto isn't highly valuable in combat, the primary benefit to summoning one is to use its flight combined with abilities to carry objects. It can carry bombs to drop on enemies, take a parcel to be delivered to someone far away, or bring one end of a rope across a chasm, among other potential uses.

As a general rule, a single Pesto can safely carry a weight up to roughly 40 lbs (or 20 kg) for several minutes, and anything lighter for hours. With a much heavier load, the Pesto will drop its load prematurely. If there are several casters of this spell, or the user can summon several Pestos at once, they can work in tandem to carry heavier objects.

You always have at least one summon level. The number of summon levels you have represents how many summoned creatures you can simultaneously maintain. A summoned Pesto occupies one summon level, until it dies or is dismissed. In this way, the Pesto "fills" one of your summon levels. While your summon levels are completely filled in this way, you cannot summon any more creatures. You can gain more summon levels through the Summon Power treasure.

Trivia

  • The Summon Pesto treasure is an original creation by one of Hyrule Castle's members. Its concept is credited to Guy. The Pesto enemy canonically appeared in the Zelda series, initially in The Minish Cap. More information about Pestos can be found on ZeldaWiki.
