When a player creates a player-character, in addition to details like race, age, appearance, personality, and backstory, there are certain aspects which are quantified in regards to the "treasure" system of Hyrule Castle. Namely, the character is assigned a PWC score, has at least 100 rupees to spend on starting treasures, and can gain several racial perks which depend upon the character's race. These perks exemplify a race's inherent advantages, such as a Zora's ability to breath water.
When a character is created, he gains any innate perks of his race. For example, Plant Composition is an innate racial perk of Deku Scrubs, so every Deku Scrub must have Plant Composition. In addition to any innate perk, the character can gain up to three additional perks. In doing so, he can choose from any racial perks of his race, as well as any universal perks. Most perks that aren't obtained right away can usually be obtained later as normal treasures, and the benefiting race may be able to get such a treasure at less than its normal cost, or be able to use it better than other races. Unless otherwise stated, any racial perk can only be obtained once.
Universal perks represent backgrounds or traits that might belong to a character's backstory, but aren't exclusive to any one race. A character of virtually any race could grow up being a blacksmith, for instance, so any race can gain Business as a racial perk. With the exception of Specialty, all universal perks can only be obtained at character creation.
The below table features a list of every race and its appropriate racial perks. Universal perks can be found at the bottom.
